Public Education in the Rapid City Community is at a cross roads and we are searching for a new leader. The past is filled with stories of success and greatness; the story of the future depends on us. Will we continue to generate students who make a difference in our community, the nation and the world? Can more students embark on this path in the future than in the past? Currently the RCAS is searching for a new superintendent. Who will that person be? It is up to us as a community to influence the selection process and help choose a leader who will work with us to create a great future for our children.
We need a leader who will inspire and communicate, team build and problem solve, crunch numbers and teach, and create an organization we can embrace and follow for our children and ourselves. To accomplish this our community will have to have a vision for public education. We need the why for what we are doing defined. Will our new leader guide us in developing this vision?
Simon Sinek, in his TED talk “How Great Leaders Inspire Action” said it well. :…there are leaders and there are those who lead. Leaders hold a position of power or authority, but those who lead inspire us. Whether they're individuals or organizations, we follow those who lead, not because we have to, but because we want to. We follow those who lead, not for them, but for ourselves. And it's those who start with "why" that have the ability to inspire those around them or find others who inspire them.” (https://www.ted.com/talks/simon_sinek_how_great_leaders_inspire_action/transcript?language=en#t-182547)
During the rest of this week the search firm, McPherson & Jacobson, (www.macnjake.com), who conducted community input sessions on Monday and Tuesday will be taking public input online at http://macnjake.com/openings/#southdakota . 2) Consensus builder, listener, and willing to forge relationships
3) Student centered and focus on the achievement for ALL students
4) Bring trust and confidence to all points of the organization
5) Will be a positive trustworthy role model
Can we find a leader who will inspire us and work with the Rapid City Community to develop a vision that will guide decisions and create success for us as a whole and for our children now and in the future? Your input matters. Lay aside fear and skepticism and become involved!
